FAQs
Kennel Features
The G1™ kennel works better for your dog in the heat than any other pet travel crate we've put to the test. We worked with a third-party lab to stimulate different environments and conditions and found that the kennel stays an average of 8% cooler than a leading single-wall rotomolded kennel.
You can find the details of our Thermal Property test here. We have also broken down the testing a bit further here to show pack members the test parameters.
Here are some quick facts on the kennel:
- The G1 Kennel stays 12% cooler than a leading aluminum kennel.
- Our kennel is the only double-wall rotomolded option on the market. That's important because the extra layer of rotomolded material is proven to better block UV rays, as well as humidity.
- The rubber feet on our crates raises them off the ground, limiting heat transmission from surfaces like pavement and truck beds.
- Purchasing one of our pad accessories add an additional layer of protection, helping bring temps down inside the crate.
- The G1™ has ample airflow with 10 windows on its sides, a vented door and three rear windows. The Fan Kit 2.0 gets even more air circulation through there.
We know you know this, but we've gotta say it: we never recommend leaving your dog in the kennel for extended periods of time in the heat.
We believe the G1™ kennel works for your dog in the cold better than any other pet travel crate we've put to the test. We worked with a third-party lab to stimulate different environments and conditions and found that the kennel stayed up to 20 degrees warmer than the outside air. You can find the details of our Thermal Property test here. We have also broken down the testing a bit further here to show pack members the test parameters.
Here are some quick facts on the kennel:
- Our kennel is the only double-wall roto-molded crate on the market. This matters because the second layer of construction adds extra protection against outside chill and cold winds.
- Rubber feet raise the G1™, limiting heat transmission out of kennel & allowing the dog to retain warmth.
- The G1 Kennel will stay up to 20 degrees warmer than the outside air.
- Your dog expends 20% less energy to stay warm in GUNNER's G1 Kennel, compared to leading single-wall rotomolded or aluminum kennels.
- A dog in a GUNNER with both the Cold Weather Door Cover and an All-Weather kit will expend one-tenth as much energy keeping warm as one in an uncovered GUNNER (in subzero temperatures).
- In the same way, our pad accessories limits heat conduction from the frozen ground.
- Engineers specifically designed the window vents to repel elements like water, sleet & snow. Plus our All-Weather Kit provides additional protection
At this time we do not have a dual door crate.
However, our G1™ kennel door is able to be installed to open from the left as well as the right, so that you can assimilate a dual crate. We also offer a connection kit accessory, to secure the two together.
Yes, you can stack our crates by removing the carry handle(s) of the bottom resting G1™ kennel.
However, please note that these crates were designed specifically for durability, and not created to be broken down easily. We have not crash tested our kennels in a stacked scenario.
Absolutely. Check out our founder, Addison, putting our kennels to the test by dropping a G1™ Kennel off of a cliff and shooting it with a shotgun here.
Please note, we pride ourselves on having the safest portable kennel on the market, and our products are made of a very durable blend of polymer. Due to this, our kennels are not 100% chew proof. If your pup has a tendency to chew, we highly recommend you also purchase our Chew Kit to help mitigate chew damage and protect your investment.
Yes, and that's a really important part of what sets Gunner Kennels apart from any other crate on the market: safety. The G1™ kennel is the first 5 Star Crash Test Rated pet travel crate, certified by the Center For Pet Safety. You can watch those CPS crash test videos (plus ones that we conducted ourself) on YouTube here.
In addition, here are a few additional facts to demonstrate why it's so important to use a crash tested restraint while traveling:
- Read our testimonials from real customers, who say Gunner Kennels saved their dog.
- 85% of products failed the safety certification when crash tested by the Center For Pet Safety in their 2015 safety study test.
- An estimated 100,000 dogs are killed each year falling from pickup trucks, and more are injured, according to the American Humane Society.
- In a vehicle accident at 35 mph, an unrestrained 60 lb. dog can carry the force of 2,700 lb. of projectile, according to Bark Buckle UP advocacy group. Think about the implications of that, for not only your dog but all your passengers included.
- There are 89.7 million household dogs in the U.S., per 2016 Census Bureau data. The AAA reports that though nearly 85 percent of owners travel with their dogs, only 16 percent of them use some form of restraint while their dog is in the vehicle. That's over 64 million dogs at risk.
- We've put this kennel through our own stress tests, to see just how much it can withstand. We applied over 4,000 lbs of force through a vice machine (the kennel broke the machine at 4,000 lb), dropped a 630 lb sled from 8’3”, threw the G1™ from a 200-foot cliff drop, and shot it with a 12-gauge shotgun at 7 steps with no bullet penetration. Watch the results.
The G1™ kennel is double-wall rotomolded, and designed to be the toughest, safest portable kennel on the market. Its weight reflects that.
- The G1™ Small weighs around 27 pounds.
- The G1™ Medium weighs around 36 pounds.
- The G1™ Intermediate weighs approximately 48 pounds.
- The G1™ Large is around 72 pounds.
All come standard with kayak-grade handles for easier lifting. The Kennel Wheel Kit is available for the G1™ Intermediate to help roll your kennel from point A to point B. The G1™ Large also includes wheels for better transport.
The G1™ kennel is the first 5 Star Crash Test rated travel crate on the market, according to the Center For Pet Safety certification standards.
There are many factors that contribute to the safety of our product; one of those are the stainless-steel tie-down pins that allow you to anchor your kennel to any vehicle with our Tie-Down Strap Kit accessory. Gunner always recommends securing the crate: in the case of an accident, you want to ensure the kennel isn't being thrown out of the car (or onto any passengers). The kennel can be tied down in the bed of a truck, the cargo space, or on the backseat.
Here are the two aspects about the tie-down system that make the biggest difference:
- The anchors on the four corners of the G1™ are 1/2" thick stainless steel pins. When we were crash testing the kennel prior to initial release, we realized that certain forces would be too great for its original anchor component – so Addison went back and sourced thicker, stronger pins made of stainless steel, to ensure they would be able to withstand certain impact.
- Our tie-down pins are intentionally built into the kennel: as the G1™ cools, we insert the stainless steel components at the four corners, in order to ensure they're fully part of the safety system. Most other crates out there offer (add-on) aluminum brackets – that are not integrated in the same way – which are liable to rip out with enough force or impact.
Kennel Sizing
We are working on perfecting additional G1™ kennel sizes now. If you'd like to be added to our waitlist let us know here – or, don't hesitate to email our customer experience team to discuss your options.
Two G1™ Large crates will not fit side-by-side in a standard truck bed without building some sort of platform to raise the kennels up over the wheel wells. You will need at least 56” of width to fit two G1™ Large kennels – here's its exterior dimensions: 40.25" (L) x 28" (W) x 33.25" (H).
Gunner Kennels customers find different ways to raise the kennels up in order to have a side-by-side set up – some of which you can see either on our Customer Gallery or in our GK Discussion Den.
All G1™ sizes can be secured in both the cargo space or the backseat of the vehicle using our stainless-steel integrated tie-down points. The visual below shows how to anchor to a vehicle seat specifically. You can also check out a step by step video here.
To anchor the kennel to the backseat, located the child safety loops, located between the seat and seat back. You will be utilizing (2) of our tie-down straps and these safety loops to secure the vehicle.

Please follow the visual below to anchor the G1™ to the backseat:
SIZING APP
We have developed our own fit finder app that takes into consideration your dog's details, your setup and your intended use to recommends the best size for you. Click here to use it.
CUSTOMER GALLERY
We have asked our G1™ owners to submit their K9 photos and stats, so we could index them for you. Whether you have a question about your dog's sizing or your specific setup, our Pack has some visual guidelines for you. Helpful hint: you can filter by breed, weight size, vehicle and more. WEIGHT GUIDELINES
Every dog and circumstance varies, which is why we can’t offer a guaranteed fit – but we can give you our best recommendation based on customer feedback.
If using the crate for traveling, we always recommend a snug fit. This protects the dog in the case of an accident – the less wasted space the better – and we’ve found that he/she feels more secure when traveling in a tighter area. The following weight guidelines is when the crate is intended for travel:
- G1™ Small fits most dogs up to 30 lb.
- G1™ Medium fits most dogs up to 45 lb.
- G1™ Intermediate fits most dogs up to 75 lb.
- G1™ Large fits most dogs up to 110 lb.
Every dog is built differently and we suggest consulting your veterinarian – or your trainer, if you have one – with additional questions. Again, please note that these above weight recommendations are based on the assumption that you will use the crate for transportation.
INTENTION: WHEN IN DOUBT, MEASURE OUT
We created this crate specifically for transportation: when choosing a size, please consider if you will use the crate primarily for kenneling at home or for securing the pet’s safety while traveling. Those who are using their crate for home kenneling will want to opt for a larger size than what is referenced above.
When using primarily for home kenneling, measure your dog from their base of tail to tip of nose for length. Then, with the dog standing measure base of paw to the tip of their ears. Compare these measurements to our crate's interior dimensions (below).
G1™ SMALL INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
21.75" (L) x 14.5" (W) x 15.5" (H)
G1™ MEDIUM INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
25" (L) x 18" (W) x 19.75" (H)
G1™ INTERMEDIATE INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
30" (L) x 18" (W) x 25" (H)
G1™ LARGE INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
33.25"(L) x 21"(W) x 29"(H)
Note: if you will also be using the crate for flight travel, see more info here.
PREFERENCE
We believe dogs are den animals and most are comforted in a nest-like area – but choosing your kennel size hinges on the crate’s intended use, what the pet is used to, and what you (the owner) are comfortable with.
Because the make and model varies each year – and each customer wants to place their G1™ crate in different areas of the vehicle – we can’t keep track well enough to offer a guaranteed fit.
Knowing that, we’ve developed out a couple different ways to help you determine if the kennel will fit in your particular scenario:
CUSTOMER GALLERY
We recently started asking G1™ owners to submit their dogs' photos and setups, so that we could index them for you. You can actually filter by your model to see if anyone has submitted a similar setup. See that Customer Gallery here.
AUGMENTED REALITY
With GUNNER VISION™, you can now imagine our kennels at actual product scale, in any space you want. We do this through an augmented reality (AR) feature using 3D models of the crates. Use GUNNER VISION™ in a Safari browser on your Apple device to envision the kennels in the environment where you intend to use it – like in your vehicle, in your home or even next to your dog. Go here to check it out.
MEASURE OUT
When in doubt, measure out! See all kennel size's exterior dimensions below.Compare these measurements to our crate's interior dimensions (below).
G1™ SMALL EXTERIOR DIMENSIONS
24.5" (L) x 18.625" (W) x 19" (H)
G1™ MEDIUM EXTERIOR DIMENSIONS

The Gunner Take
The G1™ travel kennel does meet most airline requirements, provided that you follow certain guidelines that pertain to consumer requirements (i.e. "live pet" label, accessible water and food containers, weight limit and size compliant, etc.) that are the responsibility of the pet owner.
We believe the G1™ is an ideal choice for air travel, due to the unrivaled durability, the escape-proof door, and its special properties that work better for your dog in the heat and cold (compared to other crates). If you want more info on why these things matter, contact us at [email protected]. We can say that we have had plenty of customers who have successfully transported their dogs through airlines using Man's Best Kennel!
IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is a trade association that represents 260 airlines worldwide, and for these airlines it sets the standard for transporting your pet by plane. Here's some things to note when traveling with your dog:
- You can see IATA's specific guidelines for pet travel here.
- The IATA does not certify, approve or endorse any pet container manufacturer.
- The decision often ultimately resides with the employee working at the airline's baggage check. That's why we always recommend confirming with whatever your airline you are traveling with, prior to your departure date. In our experience, the airline employee has always been impressed by/noted the superior construction of the kennel.
SIZING
Please note that IATA standards mandate that the dog be able to fully stand, turn around, and lie down in the crate comfortably. Compare your dog's measurements to our crate's interior dimensions (below) to determine best size for air travel for your K-9:
G1™ SMALL INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
21.75" (L) x 14.5" (W) x 15.5" (H)
G1™ MEDIUM INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
25" (L) x 18" (W) x 19.75" (H)
G1™ INTERMEDIATE INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
30" (L) x 18" (W) x 25" (H)
G1™ LARGE INTERIOR DIMENSIONS
33.25"(L) x 21"(W) x 29"(H)
Founder Addison Edmonds created the Gunner kennel specifically for transportation, and that factors into our own fit recommendations: when choosing a size, please consider if you will use the G1™ primarily for kenneling at home, or for securing the K9's safety while traveling.
Check out our Sizing Guide to help you find the best size for your dog.
If using the crate for traveling we always recommend a snug fit. This protects the dog in the case of an accident or if you’re hitting the brakes too hard: the less wasted interior space the better. It's a bit of a mind-shift in what you'd normally consider when selecting a kennel, but we believe this is for the safety of the dog. Many of our customers have found that their dog feels more secure when traveling in a tighter area, too.
Those who are using their crate primarily for home kenneling will obviously want to opt for a larger size if the dog is spending longer, more consistent periods of time in there. Watch Addison and Gunner walk you through these parameters in a video here .

GUNNER recommends securing your kennel 100% of the time, by strapping it down with our tie-down straps to the strongest anchor points in your vehicle.
Our custom cam buckle and polyester webbing combo have met our crash test standards: These are the very same straps that were used in the testing protocol that earned our G1™ a 5 Star Crash Test Rating, via Center For Pet Safety certification program.
In fact, here's quick story as to why the tie-down straps you use may matter: in our own initial crash testing (before the G1™ was ever released), our first iteration of straps were snapped with the force of impact, and unable to hold the kennel down. So we went back to the drawing board – and released our tie-down strap product, the only set we recommend.
To see a video of how we recommend anchoring the straps to your vehicle, go here.
Below are visuals to better help you secure the crate to your vehicle.
ANCHORING THE CRATE TO YOUR VEHICLE SEAT:
ANCHORING THE CRATE TO YOUR CARGO AREA OR TRUCK BED:
Crash testing was a critical part to our R&D and impacted the kennel’s final design, as you know. This included our strap system: In that testing, we were also making sure our Tie Down Strap Kit passed muster.
In our initial crash testing (before the kennel debuted), the original strap accessory actually broke – so we went back to the drawing board with those. The straps we offer on our website today, which debuted with the G1™ as a complementary accessory, have been tested and proven in all of our crash test scenarios. They are also the straps that the Center For Pet Safety used in their own crash test certification, and the set that they recommend when anchoring your crate to your vehicle.
Yes, they are pricier than some you might find online – but that's due to the quality construction of these straps:
- MFG Rated 2,500 Pound Load Capacity Cam Buckle
- MFG Rated 4,250 Pound Break Strength Nylon Webbing
- MFG Rated 4,250 Pound Break Strength Nylon Webbing
- 380 Degree Fahrenheit Melting Point
Whether you use our straps or not, Gunner always recommends anchoring the kennel to your vehicle through our stainless-steel tie-down pins – for both your safety, and your dog's.

GUNNER recommends securing your kennel 100% of the time, by strapping it down with our tie-down straps to the strongest anchor points in your vehicle.
We have two different sets of tie-down straps available based on the needs of your particular vehicle:
- (4) 8 foot straps
- This is best for a standard setup securing your G1™ in the backseat or in a smaller truck bed.
Here is an example for setup with the Traditional straps:
- (2) 8 foot straps & (2) 14 foot straps
- This set is best for securing the G1™ in a longer truck beds that require the extra length or to offset the kennel to one side for added storage.
- This combination can also work well in customized setups that require more length on the straps.
Here are a few examples on setups with the Combination straps:
Whether you use our straps or not, Gunner always recommends anchoring the kennel to your vehicle through our stainless-steel tie-down pins – for both your safety, and your dog's.
It is highly advised to push the product when the Wheel Kit is attached, and not pull. Pulling makes it harder on you, and only increases the risk of breaking the drain plug.
Check out this video, to see how we recommend rolling the Large kennel or the Intermediate kennel with wheel kit attached.
The Wheel Kit is made of a durable 3/16" aluminum material, using the same high-quality wheels as used for the G1™ Large crate.
No, because the wheel kit uses the drain plug for attachment, you must remove the wheel kit to remove the plug and drain the kennel. However, the wheel kit was designed for easy attachment and removal.
The wheel kit for the Intermediate kennel does not add width to the crate. It does add approximately 4" of length, due to the diameter of the wheels.
The Kennel Bowl is made with the same ultra-durable material used to construct our G1™️ kennel door and is heavy duty. However, the intensity of a high-drive K9 can be unrivaled and therefore this product may not be suitable for all dogs, especially those with a tendency to chew.
You know your dog best; please pay close attention to their behavior after installing the product if you have any concerns. Do not use the product if you feel as if the product could be a hazard to your dog. We also recommend removing the bowl from the kennel when not in use, in order to discourage teeth on the product.
The construction of this bowl is designed to encourage easy cleaning. The super tough material means you can hose it off and go; for a deeper clean, wash it with dish soap and water – or distilled white vinegar if it needs a longer soak.
Repeatedly adding food to your Kennel Bowl without cleaning can make the interior greasy with rancid oil. That could potentially contaminate fresh food.
Especially when using the bowl for food, we recommend making it a habit to wash it with dish soap and hot water, or distilled white vinegar if it needs a longer soak
The funnel attachment for the Kennel Bowl will not work for pouring food into the bowl. This funnel only allows for adding water from the exterior, when the door is closed.
(2) kennel bowls will fit on the bottom panels of the Intermediate & Large doors.
(1) kennel bowl will fit on the bottom panels of the Small & Medium doors.
We do not recommend placing your Kennel Bowl in the dishwasher, largely due to the integrated magnets that act as a locking mechanism for the custom mounting bracket.
Good to note: Repeatedly adding food to your Kennel Bowl without cleaning can make the interior greasy with rancid oil. That could potentially contaminate fresh food. We recommend making it a habit to wash it with dish soap and hot water, or distilled white vinegar if it needs a longer soak.
The Kennel Bowl holds at least 6 cups of water or food (depending on the type of food). On the inside of the bowl, there are demarcations for 2 cups, 4 cups, and 6 cups so you can easily measure before sliding the bowl in place on the door.
We designed the Kennel Bowl mounting bracket, so that the product can be easily removed when not in use. We always recommend removing the bowl from the kennel when not in use, in order to discourage teeth on the product, as well as to ensure the safety of your dog during travel. However, if desired the Kennel Bowl can technically be left on the inside of the kennel door on a more permanent basis.
Absolutely, and we highly suggest protecting your investment if you're traveling with the G1™ in your truck. We have created a Security Lock Kit with a high-strength, stainless steel lock bracket designed to install in 6 different positions on the kennel. The kit comes with a stainless steel security bolt and key to install. All you’ll need is a lock and chain.
The Orthopedic Bed cover material helps repel stains, bacteria and odors – but we know you've been out there adventuring with your pup, so here are some care tips for when you need to clean the mud off:
TO CLEAN COVER
- You can easily spot clean the cover if the stain is small
- For a more heavy-duty clean up, hand wash cover in cold water or machine wash.
- To machine Wash: Remove cover, zip-up cover, and close velcro seal before washing. Use a small amount of detergent. Wash in cold water.
TO DRY COVER
- Lay flat or hang to dry
- If drying cover in the dryer, make sure to zip up and close velcro seal. Dry on low heat, delicate cycle until dry.

Food & Water
The Food & Water Bowl is made of a food safe, glass filled Polyketone resin. This material is comparable to other Gunner products- like our kennel door, kennel bowl, and food scoop.
With the lid installed, the bowl can hold up to about 6 cups of food or water. Without the lid, it can hold up to about 7 1/2 cups.
Yes-the bowl is made with non-absorbent materials and is dishwasher safe. We recommend washing our bowl on the top rack of the dishwasher.
The bowl is BPA Free and completely safe for your dog to eat or drink out of.
The GUNNER bowl is overbuilt and is chew resistant. The bowl features a reinforced rubber footing that discourages dogs from trying to remove it. The bowl is not meant to be a chew toy.
If sealed properly- you shouldn’t experience any spills. We recommend applying pressure to the middle of the lid to seal the bowl.
The Food Crate features a draw-style latch for easy access for you, but should stump animals – including your dog – from gaining access. The product comes with a stainless-steel locking pin, which helps to keep the food safe from an especially motivated K9.
The Food Crate 50 weighs 10.5 lbs when empty.
It has a centrally balanced handle for convenient portability. So keep it in the home, throw it in the truck or take it to the camp, this GUNNER Food Crate is designed for everywhere.
The Food Crate 30 weighs 7.6 lbs when empty.
This variation was designed with tighter spaces, weekend warriors, and single dog households in mind.
Our Food Crate 30 is 17.5” long x 13.5” wide x 17” tall. The U-Pour opening dimensions are 9.25" x 11.5"
Our Food Crate 50 is 23.75" long x 13.2" wide x 17.5" tall. The U-Pour opening dimensions are 9.25" x 11.5"
Our Food Crate 30 was designed to hold up to 30 lbs of dry dog food and is great for one dog households, small dog households, or traveling for a few weeks at a time.
Our Food Crate 50 was designed to hold up to 50 lbs of dry dog food and is perfect for the camp, households with multiple dogs, and extended travels.
Yes, it is airtight and odor free.
The Food Crate from GUNNER has an IP66 rating, one of the highest levels of protection offered by an IP rating, with complete defense against airborne particles.
Our heavy duty dog food pin features an airtight thermoplastic rubber gasket that seals up odor and discourages pest attraction. Combined with the draw-style latch and rotomolded construction, our dog food storage bin will secure dry dog food against moisture, guard against UV light, rancidity and mold.
The GUNNER Food Crate has a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty, meaning we will cover any defects or damage that happens over time to the crate due to the way it was manufactured.
As with our G1™ Kennels, we cannot cover damage done by an animal. See our warranty here.
The product’s ultra-durable, draw-style latch locks up the storage, providing quick access for you but stumps unwanted agitators.
The Food Crate also comes with a stainless-steel locking pin to add to the latch, which adds an extra layer of protection from any sort of pests or motivated K9s. You do not need to use the locking pin for everyday use, only if you have a scavenger problem or plan to leave your food storage bin outside.
Our G1™ kennel and Food Crate are rotomolded with polyethylene material, which has UV protection built into the material.
And, just like the kennel, it has elevated rubber feet to lift the product off of resting heated surfaces.
The three main factors that affect the nutritional value of dog food once it's been opened are air, moisture and temperature. The Food Crate from GUNNER guards against all of these.
The Food Crate body is constructed with FDA-compliant and BPA-free polyethylene material.
The GUNNER Food Crate is a dog food storage bin that provides extreme durability and a fortress-like protection against pests, locking in odor and defending dinner against outside agitators like raccoons, rats and ants.
It is rotomolded, using the same processes as our heavy-duty G1™ kennel. It features a draw style latch that provides quick access for you but stumps unwanted agitators. In addition, we have a stainless steel locking pin for the latch that provides extra protection from rodents and raccoons.
We have tested it to withstand a family of 4 raccoons try to break into the Food Crate over 23 days. We added peanut butter to the top of the product and set it in Addison's wooded backyard for a few weeks, to see what would happen. A coyote, a dog and some squirrels make cameos too. Check it out here.
Yes, it is odor free. It has a IP67 rating, meaning this food bin offers complete protection against airborne particles. The food storage container features an airtight thermoplastic rubber gasket that seals up odors completely.
The GUNNER Food Crate construction is specifically designed to encourage easy cleaning. The food storage container’s seamless lip and interior means you can hose it off – inside and out – to ensure there’s no debris, grit or grime. It’s also built to allow for easy drying, as excess moisture can cause mold and mildew to grow on food.
Repeatedly adding food to your pet food bin without cleaning can make the interior greasy with rancid oil. That could potentially contaminate fresh food. We recommend making it a habit to wash it with dish soap and hot water, or distilled white vinegar if it needs a longer soak.
Gunner Bumper
Yes. You can remove the cap and put scent products inside of the cavity
No - even if punctured the Gunner Bumper will not absorb water.
Yes, it floats. It was intentionally designed to float high, making it an easy mark for the dog in water.
The bumper is a training tool that we designed to be very durable during retrieving and training. It should only be used when your pup is working and was not designed to be left with your dog unattended for extended periods of time.
At GUNNER we don’t take shortcuts when it comes to the quality of our products. We chose to use premium materials to make a bumper that was meant to last while training your dog. Our bumper is the first on the market to have a removable throw rope by assembly and a scent training interior cavity with a removable cap.
We found that some pack members like to throw with a longer rope while others liked a shorter rope. We decided we could have both. The throw rope has two settings which makes it customizable to what works for you. Another way we customized it based on preference is by opting to add a loop and a half circle to the end of the throwing rope. Whether you prefer to throw the rope from the loop or the circle, we’ve got you covered.
Our bumper was designed to make your dog want to naturally grab the middle of the training tool, resulting in the proper hold while retrieving. In the middle, there are also air vents which will help your dog's breathing while retrieving.
The bumper is made of Duratrieve, a proprietary foam rubber compound which makes it lightweight and durable.
Warranty & Product Care
Gunner will make every effort to replace the limited-edition or discontinued products, but cannot guarantee their availability for replacement at time of request.
Any limited-edition or discontinued product still under its applicable warranty that cannot be replaced with an identical limited-edition product will be replaced with the equivalent model based on availability.
Every G1™ kennel carries a lifetime warranty policy: that's how much we believe in our product. No more replacing flimsy crate after flimsy crate, year after year. That was part of the reason we started this company.
If you have a dog with high-drive you understand your dog's level of adrenaline. And you know when they put their mind to it, they can do some damage to whatever is in front of them. As long as you're not allowing the kennel to act as a giant chew toy we guarantee this product will last forever. The warranty does not extend to cover destruction done to the product by the pet, and obvious signs of chewing on the kennel will not be covered by our lifetime guarantee.
Note: We highly suggest purchasing our add-on chew kit accessory if you have any concerns regarding your dog's chewing tendency.
Questions on this? Contact our customer experience team, or see the full warranty policy here.
The GUNNER Food Crate has a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty, meaning we will cover any defects or damage that happens over time to the crate due to the way it was manufactured.
As with our G1™ Kennels, we cannot cover damage done by an animal. See our warranty here.

The G1™ door was designed to be reversible, for your setup convenience – this is particularly helpful when you've got two G1™ crates, side-by-side. Check out this video for step by step instructions to flip your door.
Directions for reversing the door are as follows:
- Use a 3/16 allen wrench to unscrew the 6 door bolts.
- If you have a G1™ Small or G1™ Medium, you will also need to remove the striker plate.
- Flip the door around, reinstall the hex bolts.
- You will want to take a phillips head screw driver to remove the name plate and flip to the other side.
- If you have trouble lining up the bolts after you take them out, you can loosen the body bolts on the four corners of the kennel using a 7/16 inch socket wrench.
If you have any issues, don't hesitate to contact us here.
After you've got some good mileage on the crate, you may notice the backup safety latches on the G1™ beginning to stick. We know you're putting the Gunner through the paces – that's what we expect. Fortunately, we have a few simple steps that work well for our customers who are seeing that grit, dirt and grime building up:
- First, use a 7/64 allen key to adjust the knob on the front end of the latch to make sure it's not too loose (or too tight).
- Take a Phillip's screwdriver and adjust the back screw, adjusting for the same issue.
- If you have an air compressor or air duster, hit it with that to make sure the dirt & grime is out. This is a good step to take regularly, moving forward.
- Follow that up with whatever lubricant you have on hand – WD40 will work well.
If you're still having any issues after following the above, please contact us here. We'll work with you to help fix it ASAP.

Other FAQs
We believe we've built the most durable kennel on the market. Though our crates were created specifically for travel, we've had many customers find their solution in Gunner Kennels for their extreme chewers or pets with phobias/anxiety.
Because of that our engineers created our Chew Kit: waterjet-cut, stainless steel covers to keep teeth off of the vents and discourage chewing. We always recommend purchasing this accessory if your dog has anxiety or an extremely high drive.
Note: that our manufacturer's lifetime warranty does not cover destruction done to the product by the pet. Please review our warranty here.
Here are two customer testimonials that you may find helpful:
With each Limited Edition release: we run a small batch of these kennels, once we sell out -- they’re gone for good. We've had many different Limited Edition releases over the years, five of which have been part of our Flyway Series, which pays homage to the major North American flyways. We’re unsure when the next drop will be, but it will not be until 2025. Stay tuned!
